Here’s what the report had to say:

Mortgage applications in the U.S. rose last week by the most since January of 2007. Less expensive borrowing costs apparently encouraging more buyers to seek loans for home purchases and refinancing. The Mortgage Bankers Association’s index of applications to buy a home or refinance a loan jumped 8.1 percent to 656.5 from 607.1 the prior week. This is good news for buyers and sellers in the Salt Lake County real estate area because it indicates growing activity in the Salt Lake County real estate marketplace.

Furthermore, a gauge of demand for credit specifically for home purchases rose 7.4 percent, and the average rate on a 30-year fixed mortgage fell for the fourth consecutive week.
